This morning we switched it up and decided not to go to Soda City Market. Instead, we went across the river to West Columbia for brunch at Cafe Strudel followed by some outdoor time at the Carraway Park playground and the Riverwalk. It was an amazing morning and such a fun thing to do with kids in Columbia.
Brunch at West Columbia’s Cafe Strudel
In our opinion, Cafe Strudel is one of the best brunch spots in the Columbia area. The casual atmosphere is always so lively and friendly. It was our go-to spot when I was pregnant with our first– I couldn’t get enough of their famous hangover hashbrowns (onions, banana peppers, tomatoes, cheddar cheese + 2 eggs piled high on their perfect hashbrowns.) Banana peppers! Can you even!?
Anyway, I shocked the table when I ordered something different today. I decided it was finally time to shake things up. Also, I just really wanted bacon so I got a classic 2 egg breakfast plate (2 eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast.) I think next time I will again order a new-to-me menu item …. and then get an order of hangover hashbrowns for the table! I missed them!! You can view their full menu here if you want all the details.
My husband got his usual breakfast burrito and our oldest got cinnamon pancakes, which they both devoured before letting me take any photos! Our youngest just ate off our plates and loved every second of it. We also had loads of coffee (the adults, not the kids) and enjoyed people-watching.
Outdoors Along the Congaree River
Once we finished up at Cafe Strudel, we headed down to the river and stopped at Carraway Park Playground which is on our list of the best playgrounds in Columbia, SC. It was the perfect place to let the kids run around while we recovered from our food coma. The park is great with new equipment and tons of things to do for kids of all ages.
After the kids had their fill of playtime and with a little coaxing of getting to go check out the river, we walked across the street to the West Columbia Riverwalk Park. Starting at the amphitheater, we walked south along the Three Rivers Greenway for about a half an hour before turning around. Walking back you get a beautiful view of the Gervais Street bridge. The riverwalk is on our top things to do in Columbia, SC list if you are looking for inspiration!
It was such a fun outing and we can’t wait to do it again soon! I still can’t get over the warm weather and the beautiful blooms everywhere (oh, and the pollen…)
